چکیده

We develop an algorithm for reconstructing the triaxial shapes of dark matter halos from the anisotropic spatial distributions of their substructures. First, we construct an analytic model for the anisotropic spatial distributions of dark halo substructures under the assumption that the tidal field with non-zero trace in the triaxial mass distribution of the host halos generate the substructure bulk motions toward the major principal axes of the hosts. Our analytic model reveals that the degree of anisotropy depends sensitively on the triaxiality of the host halos as well as the correlation between the substructure locations and the tidal shear field. Second, we fit the analytic model to the numerical results from highresolution N-body simulation with setting the axis ratios of the triaxial host halo as free parameters, and reconstruct the two axis-ratios of the host halos from the best-fit values of the free parameters. The comparison of the reconstructed axis ratios with the numerical results reveals a good agreement. Finally, we conclude that our analytic model may provide a physical understanding of the anisotropic spatial distribution of dark halo substructures and a new way to reconstruct in principle the triaxial shapes of dark matter halos from the observables. The Accretion-Driven Structure and Kinematics of Relaxed Dark Halos

It has recently been shown that relaxed spherically symmetric dark matter halos develop from the inside out, by permanently adapting their inner structure to the boundary conditions imposed by the current accretion rate. Such a growth allows one to infer the typical density profiles of halos. Here we follow the same approach to infer the typical spherically averaged profiles of the main structu...

Dearth of dark matter or massive dark halo ? Mass - shape - anisotropy

Recent results from the Planetary Nebula Spectrograph (PN.S) survey have revealed a rapidly falling velocity dispersion profile in the nearby elliptical galaxy NGC 3379, casting doubts on whether this intermediate-luminosity galaxy has the kind of dark matter halo expected in ΛCDM cosmology. We present a detailed dynamical study of this galaxy, combining ground based long-slit spectroscopy, int...

We present the first physical model for the non-spherical intra-cluster gas distribution in hydrostatic equilibrium under the gravity of triaxial dark matter halos. Adopting the concentric triaxial density profiles of the dark halos with constant axis ratios proposed by Jing & Suto (2002), we derive an analytical expression for the triaxial halo potential on the basis of the perturbation theory...

La-ur-91-4071 Dark Halos Formed via Dissipationless Collapse: I. Shapes and Alignment of Angular Momentum

We use N-body simulations on highly parallel supercomputers to study the structure of galactic dark matter halos. The systems form by gravitational collapse from scale-free and more general Gaussian initial density perturbations in an expanding 400 Mpc 3 spherical slice of an Einstein-deSitter universe. We use N 10 6 and a force softening = 5 kpc in most of our models. We analyze the structure ...
